So, last night, instead of sleeping, I was coming up with a setup idea! I know absolutely nothing about balance, though. I came up with a loose concept.
The game is meant to be more surprising and interesting than perfectly balanced.
There are three or four element-types (Fire-Water-Ice, Fire-Ice-Wind-Water, Fire-Water-Wind, Fire-Water-Earth-Wind or other combinations) that each have a group chat. There are equal amounts of players in each element to begin with, probably 4 in each. The element-types are randomized and can apply to any role. Nobody is confirmed to each other in these chats. (Mafia and other anti-town alignments have separate factional chats)
But basically named Mason groups are boring, so I thought it would be cool if there were roles that interacted with the different types. Like a water-type firefighter, who targets somebody each night. If that person is fire-type, he/she is removed from the fire chat (becomes typeless or becomes water type?) and is roleblocked. Or like an ice-type snowman rolecop/other power role who cannot target fire-types; if a fire-type targets them for any reason, even healing, they die (melt). Or a wind-type that if they target fire they have a chance of roleblocking it (blowing it out) and a chance of buffing it (feeding the fire). You would keep your role and alignment for a type switch.
There would be town and mafia, at least. Maybe more alignments just for fun.
I want to make this into a definite setup that I can playtest on the sims forums in a few weeks when my hosting spot rolls around, but I'm not really sure how to go about that.

Hi Crafty -- I'm not good at balancing so I'm not one to help with that. I just wanted you to know the idea sounds fun. Good luck with it, I hope you work it out.

Thanks Lala. Nobody's been active, though, so I guess I'll just pm Keyen and ask for his help.

Hey craftyyy
I'm not really sure if I could help you since I'm really not the person who may be useful, but I'm happy to help you though (I still have sufficient knowledge for roles and things) but not right now as I'm still tired from vacationing and I also need to catch up on 13 Reasons Why Season 2 lmaoooo. I'll do hit you up once I finished my binge-watching. Give me like two or three days from now, or I can try to help you if you really need me bahahaha.
But I've read your idea and it seems like fun. It's kind of chaotic and swingy, and it may be hard to balance it out, but I'm sure we'll work it out.

CraftySoooo I'm bored tonight and I'm cool if we start doing your setup. I kind of get what you want. There's this thing called neighborhood in which it's a group chat, but unlike masons and scum chats, there's no guarantee of any of the players' alignment. Players are also neighbors then, but it's a modifier role, so it can be combined with any power roles. wiki.mafiascum.net/index.php?title=NeighborAnywayssssssssssssssssss, I have this game similar to your idea that I hosted in mafiascum forum.mafiascum.net/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=71300 and maybe you can find some ideas here Alsooo, in building game setups, you need to be more specific on your thoughts like how many players you want in your game or even build your own setup and try to balance it out a bit etc, and I'll tell you if that setup can or cannot work and help you what role should be changed or something. Your setup and mechanic idea seems cool and fun, but you really need to think it through and figure out how it could work. I'd also like to point out that you can use that neighborhood mechanic in any game setups in case you feel uninspired.

Since we have trouble filling up large games on the sims forums, I think 12 players would be best. I would rather have some element of balance in the game but it might be hard.
I have way more ideas than decisions made lol. This is how it could go:
12 Players
(Elementals Fire, Ice, and Water randomly given out in pregame to vanilla roles and non-preset-type roles. (Some roles' types are pre-set) A player's type is not revealed until the player is flipped.)
1 Mafia Goon(goon can have added PR if needed) 1 Mafia Fire-type Ice melter (If targets ice, ice is role-blocked and/or silenced and becomes water type) 1 Mafia Unrevealed-type (randomly decided but not revealed to town) Silencer (or other power role if it needs to be balanced)
1 Third-Party (Or town?) Water-type Fireman (One-shot kill (if third party), every night can target somebody, if they are fire they are roleblocked and/or silenced and become water-type)?? (Maybe compulsive if town)
1 Town Ice-type Wind-somethingish? (If targets fire, there is a 50/50 chance of roleblocking (silencing?) it or buffing it (giving it another use of its power that night, if vanilla gives a one shot randomly generated pr between a few choices or something like that) 1 Town Ice-type Snowman Doctor (rolecop? both? role is very fragile) (Cannot target fire-type for any reason--if they do it will not go through. If fire targets them for any reason, they melt (die). Or, something?) 6 Unrevealed-type (randomly decided but not revealed on the thread) Vanilla Townies (Other roles added?)
Help? lol

Honestly, I'm really lost here.
I think you should come up with a decision yet before I chime in.
I kind of get your idea, however, I'm not really sure how it will work out.
I also have an idea though
What if if you make the roles (like doctors, cops) into a fire-type only or maybe wind-type rather than making up roles like an ice melter which doesn't even exist.
For example a Fire-type Doctor which can only target fire-type (and other types you intend to be targeted), but can't target an ice-type (or more types), thus the fire-type doctor's action will fail if they target an ice-type. The ice-type dying is too bastard.
I also wanna point out that an unrevealed type would result into a semi-open setup.
Annndddd do you intend to make this an open or closed setup? Because if you want it to be a closed setup, then we should just be PMing instead.
