These times confuse me.
Kitty wrote: The game will start tomorrow at 2pm (GMT-3), if this isn't ok please let me know as I can start it tonight if needed.
So I looked up GMT, and then subtracted three (because the -3) and figured it out to Eastern (thanks to internet). I was thinking it would be 8 a.m. Eastern time.
Could someone more adept at converting time help?

GMT is the US East Coast on DST. I'm currently in GMT+2 Greenwich Mean Time is on the US East Coast on Daylight Savings Time? What? I thought Greenwich Mean Time went through England. And we are on Standard Time now on Eastern US coast. I meant to say that GMT-3 is on the US east coast

A quick Google conversion says kitty is two hours ahead of me, meaning my quick conversion last night was wrong.
2pm game start is noon here in CST. So I'll miss at least 5 hours of game start. 😬

Why don't we just list all our time zones in GMT? To avoid confusion. Some places do not have daylight savings and it changes differently throughout the year so it'll always be better to state things clearly in GMT. I'm not familiar with the US timezone system so I couldn't convert it without a bit of a help from google. GMT solves the problem!
Mine is GMT+1, Ireland.

GMT is the central time on which ALL time zones are based. So it makes much more sense than taking a specific time zone and then expect others to just transfer it to GMT and then to their own zone to figure out what time is meant.

EDT is four hours behind GMT. So if the game starts at Kitty time 2pm (which is an hour ahead of EDT), it'll be 1pm in US East coast.

Sure, but people in certain time zones dont talk in GMT time. We talk in out time. So it gets confusing and a lot of people dont feel like googling it. that why I like that universal countdown and added it to this site

I agree with Katie. GMT is never referenced here. I think that's something more common in Europe. It really puts the North Americans at a distinct disadvantage. Google did not help me find out what GMT-3 is. I had to go to a separate site to ask a friend who lives in Europe.

Yep. Plus I suck at math.
If we went around saying
Im gmt-5! Thatd be one thing.
But we go around saying
Im in eastern!
A lot of times we dont even say whether were in standard or daylight, so that gets confusing too

Katie is right: we've got that universal countdown. But besides that all of your reasoning can be flipped over and make for reasons why american time zones are hard to use for anyone non-american.

Do people in Europe not have names for their time zones? They all just say I'm in GMT-4 or I'm in GMT-1? Really curious -- and the the African countries that follow in the same zone say the same thing? Iceman what do they say in Asia?
