Ooh! Do South Africa! We have lots of those. Xenophobia, racism, inequality... the holy trinity of social issues! We have Western Europe, so unfortunately I can't do South Africa. Is crime a social issue? We have a lot of that, too. And unemployment. Poverty? Illiteracy? Yes, those are all social issues. My topic is conflict & terrorism since sustainable development was stolen so crime is definitely on my list. Sustainable development is boring. Rather sort out the conflict and terrorism first before you can try to have a sustainable society, else someone is going to bomb the recycling plant and steal the windmill blades to hit people with. This topic also feels more interesting. I can’t tell you much about terrorism in South Africa— I mean... there was that one time the Australian cricket team was caught ball tampering which counts as an act of terrorism in my book, but, other than that, we haven’t been the victim of too many attacks. I think it would be jolly mean to bomb an African country, even South Africa. That’s like punching a guy in a wheelchair. Xenophobia causes a lot of conflict, though, since you get people fleeing foreign African countries due to war or poor conditions and coming to South Africa where jobs are scarce. When they are granted employment or successfully kickstart their own businesses locals feel it is unfair, so this can lead to violence. Stores destroyed, people killed, looting... That’s conflict, right? I think Legend’s point is another example of Xenophobia, except this time with national endorsement. In some ways much more serious, although at least it’s organized. This whole business of refugees and Mexicans in America which is quite topical at the moment— How they are “stealing” their jobs— shows that this is a worldwide issue.

Although, granted, the Americans are more talky and less violent about it. Not sure about them Netherlanders. Tension still counts as conflict, though, in my opinion.

We have a racist politician who makes everyone hate anyone from the middle east for the stupidest reasons. I think it's quite the social issue. You talking about Kuzu or Wilders? Because both of their very different approaches have the same outcome xD

I think most Nederlanders who don't live in the Western part are way too nuchter to care lol. If your personality sucks I won't like you regardless of colour and if your personality is great I might, also regardless of colour. Heck, if you'd be purple I couldn't care less. But you could get some blunt questions about it, we usually are quite straight in sharing our thoughts. And I think that's how most Dutch people feel really. Except for the Zuid-Holland province... I'd say the most extremes of left and right live quite close to each other there. Still nothing really bad ever happens here. No terrorism or anything in recent years. Yeah, a while ago some looney demanded airtime on the news, turns out his gun was even a fake. So we have it pretty good out here. If you'd look into conflicts from the Netherlands I'd say MH17 is most impressive, that really left a mark on many people. But that's more Eastern-European. ETA; oah! I nearly forgot! (How could I...) If you want conflict, look up Zwarte Pieten discussie, you could argue that wealthy and relatively happy people create conflict however insignificant it may be.

I've closed signups and am going to send roles out early. Read over your roles, and ask questions if need be in your pms and whatnot.

But anyways, there's also the vaccine debate running atm, with the conflict between people worried about the group immunity if over 95% doesn't get their shots and the anti-vaccers who don't do it out of religious reasons or fear of harmful side effects. The vaccers are in a majority but it's certainly a conflict. Or else there's the entire refugee crisis, people from Africa and the Middle-East fleeing to Europe due to war and/or poverty, trying to find peace and safety, and Angela Merkel replying "Wir schaffen es" (we can afford it), and the consequences of Merkel's words, including conflicts between people agreeing and disagreeing with her.

So, you know how I said I really wanted to play? Yeah, I still do, but I have to make a 20 minute group powerpoint presentation in class on Tuesday...on top of the other homework I already have. So I will just have to watch again, I'm afraid. Oh. I did not see this. I just saw "yes that was a signup" and the football game thing. Sorry bella!

I started the south Africa and Netherlands discussion because I have to make a group presentation on Tuesday. I'm sure I can still play, I'll just have to manage my time.
