It looks like now the storm is going through Miami so I should be okay. As of now. hopefully it stays like this. |

That's good news, Katie*.
I went to look at a map of the path. I went to CNN. They have two towns pointed out on the map -- both are named Cockburn Town. I know that is in the Turks and Caicos (sp) ... but there aren't two are there? Either there are 2 Cockburn Towns or the people at CNN made a blunder. I could be wrong, but I think it's the latter. Does anyone know?
*Good news for Katie and the people of her area -- not good for the people in the path. My heart goes out to all of them to stay safe.

I told my kids I'd let them play hooky from school if we get a bad storm. I still don't honestly believe it will be bad here, but there are panickers nonetheless. Son came home and said people here are starting to worry. No. Just no. If we get anything it will likely just be tropical storm/tropical depression strength. In all my 118 years there has only been one hurricane in lalatown-- and my parents (238 years of age) have experienced only that one and one before ... so it is not to worry. We are not a hurricane-ready area, though. Hugo at Category 1 left us without power for a week and no hot water, either ... everyone got a free new roof, though. Katie -- not to make light of what you are going through. I know this is very scary and a very stressful time for you and countless others in Florida and the areas that will experience the full brunt of the storm. It's just like when snow is in the forecast here (even if it's just an inch) -- stores sell out of bread and milk. I think the same will happen here. |
